THE SOLAR ENERGY SYSTEM
m
Solar applications can be grouped into three basic categories: water heating, space heating and pool heating.  Air conditioning systems are also available.
mm
The primary function of a solar energy system is to collect and convert solar radiation into usable energy.  Typically, such a system is comprised of collectors, piping, valves, controls, storage capacity and a liquid
or air medium to transfer and distribute heat energy
to the point of use.
n
.The key part of every solar energy system is the collector.  Its function is to absorb heat radiation from the .sun.  Collectors can be mounted on roofs, installed on fences or at ground level, but they should be oriented in
.a southerly direction to receive maximum impact of the sun's radiation.
m
.Most flat plate collectors used for space heating and water heating consist of the collector casing, insulation,
.an absorber plate, tubing and glazing.
