of phase one solar salesmanship still abound. These questionable tactics range from frantic claims of the
highest Btu per panel test rating to claims of revolutionary design breakthroughs that defy not only
common sense but the laws of physics. Generally these sales-inspired exaggerations provide a lot of hot
air, but little useful solar information.

When Raypak was bought out by another company in l984 and discontinued making solar panels, we tried Solarol, a popular solar rubber matting, for a few years. Simultaneously, we used Radco and several other metal unglazed pool panels. They all heated the pools.

In l988, we made the decision to use Heliocol as our sole pool heating panel because of the impressive advance in plastic pool heating technology in general, and because of the firm's corporate stability, unmatched parts and labor warranty, unique design, solid performance and commitment to quality in particular. Chosen by the U.S. Department of Energy to heat the Olympic Pool at Georgia Tech in l996, Heliocol is to date the only solar pool panel to secure the world renowned ISO 9002 quality certification. In the last few years, its two largest competitors have tried to produce Heliocol "clones" or imitations touting the reduced wind-loading and "roof-breathing" advantages of their new panels. What do they say about imitation being the greatest form of flattery?
